Local Columbia musician eagerly approaches record release

Former Courage Riley frontman and singer/songwriter David Adedokun has finally put the finishing touches on a new record, titled How to Make a Mess of Things. The record will be released under the name of the Daylight Hours and could be out by early June.

“I’m done with everything and I’m sending things off to get the layout done tomorrow,” says Adedokun over the phone on Tuesday evening.

You can expect nine songs on the record, “but it’s still kind of long- just shy of 45 minutes,” he says. How to Make a Mess of Things will primarily include songs Adedokun wrote in 2006 in addition to some older songs that he “had always wanted to record at some point.”

“666 PACK OF BEER”

Are your early morning dreams tucked under your Duke’s of Hazard sheets filled with images of drinking with Robert E. Lee, shooting pool, throwing darts and going to the junk yard looking for parts? If so you’ll want to find yourself at Amos’ Southend in Charlotte on April 20 with the greatest band in the southeast, Rebel Son.

After penning songs like “You Can’t Wash the Red Out of My Redneck,” “Drunk as a Skunk,” “My Name is Satan” and “Whorehouse Cadillac” these Raleigh outlaws have attracted the attention of white trash and punk rockers alike. “666 Pack of Beer” tells a tale of how the singer sold his soul to Satan for three six packs of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

The band travels in a 23 foot-long General Lee stretch limo spitting out classic lines like, “How would you like to get gang banged by the chain gain, we’ve been busting rocks on this railroad track and we’re ready to run us a train, how would you like for us taking turns tearing up your poontang.” Unrefined yet classy.

24 HOURS, 24 BEERS?

The “Live Earth” concert series scheduled for this summer and organized by crazy man, Al Gore has announced the official lineup and will feature 100 musicians. The project aims at increasing the awareness of global warming in order to avoid a Kevin Costner-like water world in the near future.

The concert will be broadcasted on MSN and will take place on all seven continents on July 7. The U.S. portion will take place at Giants Stadium in New Jersey and feature acts like Fall Out Boy, AFI, Kelly Clarkson, Smashing Pumpkins. The Police and others. July 7 may prove that there’s no coincidence that there are 24 beers in a case.

ONE MAN REVOLUTION

Former Rage Against the Machine guitar hero Tom Morello has recently announced touring plans and the release of new solo material under the name of the Nightwatchman. The album, surprisingly titled One Man Revolution will hit store shelves on April 27 and the tour featuring Ben Harper will stop through SC on June 14 at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach.

LESS EYELINER ON 16 YEAR-OLD BOYS?

Honestly, the news of the break-up of one time somewhat metal band Eighteen Visions is going to make a lot of people happy. For one thing there should be a decrease in lawsuits from irresponsible parents who let rock venues babysit their kids. European coffee shops should be safer and hopefully 16 year-old dudes will be wearing a little less make-up. “At this point in our lives and our careers we feel its time to move on to something fresh and new. Whether it be music, touring or just being at home to live and enjoy life,” explains bassist Mick Morris through the band’s MySpace page.

PLAY WITH THE MEAT PUPPETS AGAIN

It appears that the Meat Puppets reunion is currently in full swing. The band has announced the release of Rise to Your Knees, the band’s first recordings in almost seven years. The Puppets will kick off their tour in May on the west Coast and will include Cris Kirkwood for the first time in 11 years.

NEW BAD BRAINS SONG LEAKED TO INTERNET

For those who still haven’t heard, Adam Yauch (the Beastie Boys) has produced a brand new Bad Brains album, Build a Nation, in his New York studio which features the original, legendary lineup. Yauch, like any hardcore kid of the last 25 years, grew up on the Bad Brains and went into the studio with the intention to recapture the raw energy of their early recordings. And the band was willing to oblige.

“Bad Brains has always experimented, forging ahead in terms of riffs and searching for unique ways to approach rock music,” bass player Darryl Jenifer recently told Billboard. “But we said this time we’re going to take it back to the way we used to kick it.”

Originally slated for release on Megaforce Records later this month “Build a Nation” has been pushed back to May 7. An early mix of one of the songs on the album called “Universal Peace” was recently leaked to the Internet via Henry Rollins’ radio show. Search it out and cut it up!

LEGEND’S HOME DESTROYED IN FIRE

On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 10, a fire engulfed the long time home of Johnny Cash. Cash and his wife had lived in the Nashville suburban home from the early 60s up until their deaths in 2003.

The house was purchased in 2006 by the Bee Gee’s Barry Gibb and his wife Linda although the couple had yet to move in. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
